Me as the painter

Art is a wonderful process..

For me, art is a wonderful process. I am fascinated when I fall in love with the energy I feel and the fragmented parts I can depict are a very small and beautiful way of showing what is beyond the eye - another world.

It is my energy and intuition that leads me to this other world and it makes me very happy and humble that I am able to reach this point to paint.

It is very difficult to explain sometimes what the painting is. My experience tells me that each observer sees some path towards light and energy. It is my intimacy and my own exploration that I take in steps - both big and small - that give me my deepest connection. Art is within me as a natural gift.

Explanation of my work

Since I was a child I have been painting and drawing and in this manner I have become a self taught painter, although at a later date I became a private student of a well known painter - Kees van Eck. Art was also my main subject in my further education studies.

My work is semi abstract with figurative elements that sometimes draw on literary or historical sources - this you can see in my Egyptian paintings.

Movement is a recurring theme - where harmony and a sense of energy are achieved by means of the interaction of colour relationships. My love of vibrant colour can be seen in my uses of colour, shape and form. This symbolises the ongoing process of discovery for me.

My work has moved from a general mixed media approach to a more exclusive use of oils - although acrylic is still a favoured medium for me.

Whereas before I often explored themes through collage, which incorporated poetry, photography and a range of wet and dry media, I am now content to explore ideas through a simpler and more direct approach.
